Due to inclement weather and severe flooding across Metro Manila brought about by the southwest monsoon, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) postponed Sunday’s Season 50 Governors’ Cup playdate at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The affected matches pitting Rain or Shine against Phoenix and Barangay Ginebra versus Blackwater are rescheduled as heavy rains continued to batter the entire metropolis since the weekend.

“In light of the severe weather conditions, and with the safety of our fans, players, officials and staff as our top priority, the PBA has decided to postpone its Sunday (August 9) games,” the league said in an advisory.

“The PBA urges everyone to take all necessary precautions and to stay safe.”

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s matches at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium featuring Converge against Terrafirma and NLEX opposite defending champion TNT are transferred to the Ynares Center-Antipolo.

All tickets purchased online for the 9 and 11 August games will be automatically refunded.

Torrential rains and roof leaks at the game venues have delayed games over the last two playdates.

A 40-minute lull heading into the fourth quarter marred Magnolia’s 105-88 victory over Meralco last Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Saturday’s clash between San Miguel Beer and guest team Macau started 20 minutes late because rainwater was dripping from the roof.

Action was halted once again late in the first quarter due to another leak before the Beermen eventually continued their clobbering of the Giant Pandas for a 131-79 beatdown.
