A business couple ordered the contract killing of political vlogger Alicia Lipata over an unpaid P8- million debt, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. revealed on Friday.
Speaking on the sidelines of a security symposium in Aklan, Nartatez said investigators identified the alleged masterminds, who were business partners and personal associates of the victim, following the arrest of the gunman and an accomplice.
“It’s about the profession as well as whether they have personal grudge or personal disagreements that started with debt,” Nartatez said, adding that Lipata, known online as “Mima Alicia,” owed the money before re-lending it to others.
Nartatez said murder charges have been filed against the masterminds, who remain at large. “They are named, we unmasked them... but are at large,” he said.
Lipata, a vocal political content creator and supporter of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., was fatally shot in the early morning hours of 17 July outside her home in Barangay 171, Caloocan City, by two assailants on a motorcycle.
Her live-in partner was injured in the attack.
