  • Collagen, according to Healthline, is the most abundant protein in the body — the primary building block for connective tissues responsible for skin health, joint and bone support and maintaining the eyes’ structural integrity.

“Collagen helps support skin structure,” noted Dr. Maika S. Slatensek at the recent MyColla C launch event in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.

But, as the body matures, natural collagen production changes. “For many women, this can show through skin that feels less firm, looks dull, or needs more support than before,” said Dr. Slatensek.

Collagen, she noted, should be part of a daily wellness rhythm, not a one-step solution. Among the ways to keep the body’s collagen production optimum are through regularly exercising; eating real protein-rich food like bone broth; applying sunblock regularly since ultraviolet rays break down and destroy collagen fibers; and cutting back on sugar since it makes natural collagen brittle, stiff and prone to rapid breakdown.

Vitamin C also helps the body in naturally producing collagen, which is why together with Marine Collagen, vitamin C is also found in MyColla C, a new line of food supplements offering beauty support from within, especially for women who are beginning to notice early signs of aging and want to meet those changes with care.

“Marine Collagen is a familiar option in skin wellness because it is commonly used in products made for daily beauty support. It is sourced from fish and is often associated with Type I collagen, the type closely linked to skin’s structure. When hydrolyzed, it is broken down into smaller peptides, making it easier to include in a daily routine,” the doctor explained.

Meanwhile, vitamin C is vital for skin renewal as an integral part of the collagen-building process. As Dr. Slatensek added: “Vitamin C is involved in collagen synthesis. That is why the conversation should go beyond collagen intake alone. We need to understand how nutrients work together in the body.”

For those who want to enjoy collagen other than in capsule or tablet form, the brand suggests trying these mixes that can be served both at parties or even at the comforts of one’s home.

    • Citrus Rush: Ideal for on-the-go individuals, this drink is made simply by mixing together sparkling water, unflavored collagen powder, orange juice, mint leaves, citrus slices and chia seeds.

    • Fresh Reset: For a refreshing beverage, mix together coconut water with unflavored collagen powder, cucumber slices and honey.

    • Berry Clouds: As a refreshing drink for any day, try mixing MyColla C in strawberry milk with coconut water, mixed berries and honey.

    • Sweet Momentum: If you need an energy boost, mix the collagen strawberry milk with soda water, diced apples, kiwi and chia.
