The Philippine National Police (PNP) expressed full support Tuesday for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to bolster school safety through tighter cooperation among police, education officials, and local governments.
Speaking after the President’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SoNA), PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police units nationwide will step up visibility around campuses and coordinate directly with local authorities, teachers and parents.
“The safety of our students is not just the job of the police. It is a shared responsibility,” Nartatez said. “We will continue working with local government units, barangay officials, school administrators, teachers and parents to ensure our schools are safe.”
Nartatez said the effort aligns with the PNP’s proactive policing framework, which focuses on community engagement and preventive operations.
The PNP chief also welcomed Marcos’ announcement of increased pensions and subsistence allowances for retired uniformed personnel, calling it a meaningful recognition of their service.
“This is a big help for our retired uniformed personnel,” Nartatez said. “On behalf of the entire Philippine National Police, we thank the president for continuing to value the welfare of those who served.”
Nartatez added that supporting both active and retired officers boosts morale across the force while reinforcing the government’s commitment to public safety and service.
