Netflix’s upcoming Filipino comedy-drama film Ganito, Ganyan, Ganoon offers viewers a glimpse into the emotional reunion between Jodi Sta. Maria and Agot Isidro as an estranged daughter and mother forced to confront the past.

Set to premiere globally on 13 August, the film follows Joanne (Sta. Maria), a television writer whose carefully rebuilt life is disrupted when her mother, Paz (Isidro), suddenly reappears after 27 years carrying a life-altering secret. As they face the reality of mortality together, the pair must navigate unresolved wounds, painful memories and the possibility of reconciliation.

Speaking during the Next on Netflix Philippines event earlier this year, Isidro said the story resonates with Filipino audiences because of the country’s strong family ties.

“Filipinos are very family-centric, so I really think we’re reaching out to our audience,” she said.

Director Cholo H. Laurel described the project as a blend of comedy and drama that mirrors the complexities of real-life family relationships, adding that “the topics that we’re discussing here are already inherently heavy, so we wanted to lighten it up a little bit.”
