Toyota Motor Philippines has started retail sales of the all-new Land Cruiser FJ, a smaller member of the long-running SUV family that keeps the basic hardware expected from the nameplate.

The new model measures 4,610mm long and 1,855mm wide, with a 2,580mm wheelbase and 245mm of ground clearance.

Its shorter body and upright shape should make it easier to place on city streets than larger Land Cruiser models, while its ladder-frame chassis gives it the structure needed beyond paved roads.

Its boxy body takes cues from older Land Cruisers. Short overhangs, squared panels and a rear-mounted spare tire give the FJ a straightforward and functional look. A side-hinged rear cargo door also adds to its old-school character.

Toyota offers the Land Cruiser FJ in TX and VX forms. Both use a 2.7-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine that produces 166 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque.

A six-speed automatic transmission sends power through a part-time four-wheel-drive system. The vehicle runs in rear-wheel drive during normal road use, while drivers may select four-wheel drive when the surface calls for more traction.

Both versions also receive Active Traction Control, an automatic limited-slip differential and a locking rear differential. The suspension uses a double-wishbone layout at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear.

The TX serves as the more basic choice. It has 17-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, synthetic leather seats and a nine-inch audio display. The driver gets a six-way manual seat, while a seven-inch TFT screen handles instrument duties.

A conventional parking brake and physical four-wheel-drive selector keep the cabin focused on direct controls.

The VX adds 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, side steps and a larger 12.3-inch display. It also gets leather trim, an eight-way power driver’s seat and a Panoramic View Monitor.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is exclusive to this version and includes pre-collision support, radar cruise control, lane departure alert and automatic high beam.

Prices start at P2,235,000 for the TX and P2,250,000 for the pearl-finish TX. The VX costs P2,575,000, while its pearl-finish version is priced at P2,590,000.

Available colors include Smoky Blue, Oxide Bronze Mica, Ash, Attitude Black Mica and Platinum White Pearl Mica. The Land Cruiser FJ is now sold through Toyota dealerships nationwide.
