Little by little, Filipino three-division champion Johnriel Casimero is on the right direction towards his goal.
After the World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) finally included him on their monthly ratings, it was the turn of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) to recognized his recent efforts.
The IBF rated Casimero No. 10 in the super-bantamweight division, just behind another Filipino, Kenneth Llover at No. 9.
Earlier, the Mexico-based WBC put him at No. 11 at featherweight while the WBO listed him at No. 4, also in the 122-pound ranks.
Casimero’s sudden appearance in the world ratings stemmed from his brutal, six-knockdown beatdown of Mexican Luis “Pantera” Nery last month in Tokoname, Japan.
Casimero, who has an immense following on social media, is scheduled to fight one more time before the year comes to a close under Koki Kameda’s promotional arm.
Meanwhile, Charly Suarez easily made the weight for his 10-round showdown with Mexican-American Manuel Avila on Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) in San Bernardino, California.
Suarez cane in under the 130-pound limit but Avila was more than a pound overweight.
Still, the fight will proceed and a victory by Suarez makes him more than deserving of a shot at a world crown.
If victorious, Suarez would like to be granted a long-deserved rematch with Mexican Emanuel Navarrete.
