The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday lauded the swift police response that led to the arrest of five alleged members of the "Gapos Gang" following a robbery in Barangay Concepcion Dos, Marikina City.
The suspects were arrested after they allegedly entered a residence by posing as police officers and presenting what they claimed were law enforcement documents. They reportedly restrained the occupants before taking valuables from the house.
Police responded after one of the victims managed to send a distress message, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen items.
Authorities seized electronic devices, a wristwatch, a 9mm pistol with magazines and ammunition, improvised firearms, mobile phones, masks, restraints and documents allegedly used in the suspects' impersonation of police officers.
The suspects, identified only by their aliases "Ahorn," "Don-Don," "Oryong," "Ric" and "Beshir," remain under police custody as investigators pursue other individuals believed to be involved.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. credited the successful operation to the quick response of police personnel and the cooperation of the victims.
"The swift action of our police officers, together with the vigilance and cooperation of the public, prevented greater harm," Nartatez said.
He also reminded police units to remain vigilant and continue strengthening intelligence, investigation and law enforcement operations to protect communities.
