Cainta Mayor Keith Nieto has ordered local traffic law enforcement to crack down on motorcycle riders who drive on sidewalks along Ortigas Avenue, calling the practice a severe danger to pedestrians.
Nieto issued the directive after receiving reports that riders are using the walkways to bypass heavy traffic, forcing pedestrians off the curb and into dangerous roadways.
"Junsky Balboa, apprehend all motorcycles going up on the sidewalks along Ortigas Avenue," Nieto said in his directive to local enforcement. "I made those sidewalks for pedestrians. That was not made for riders. They are going to hit people."
The mayor added that the local government will not offer any discounts on traffic penalties for violators.
In a separate security initiative, the Cainta municipal government has begun constructing security outposts and gate booms for the town's smaller villages to improve local safety measures.
"Small villages in Cainta often lack the funds to set up a security outpost and gate booms at their entrances," Nieto said. "Starting this year, the municipality will be the one to build it for them."
According to Nieto, the new village outposts will be fully equipped with a washroom, a septic tank, lighting and a running water supply.
