The Quezon City government affirmed that it was actively investigating an electrocution incident that took the lives of three individuals at an apartment in Barangay Pinyahan last Friday, 10 July.
In a statement, the local government expressed its condolences for the families affected, stating that it was going to take care of the funeral and burial expenses of the victims.
The officials also swore to provide educational assistance to the younger sibling that was left behind as a result of the horrific tragedy through their Social Services Development Department (SSDD).
Not ruling out the possibility that there may have been lapses on the part of the establishment’s owners, investigations under the QC Department of Building Official (DBO) and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) were said to be well underway.
“The local government ensures that it will charge and hold accountable any individual found to be responsible for the incident,” the statement read.
Under the Local Building Code of Quezon City, building owners are responsible for the safety and well-being of their occupants through securing permits such as locational clearance, fire safety inspection certificate, and an electrical permit.
The local government further urged landlords to certify that their renting spaces abided with the regulations that the government set in place to prevent similar tragedies from taking place.
Based on initial reports from authorities surrounding the incident, the victims may have been electrocuted because of a grounded circuit breaker that was attached to an air conditioning unit within the apartment.
Authorities, however, are continuing to conduct probes to identify the true cause of the three deaths.
