BONTOC, Mountain Province-- Although initial test kits for African Swine Fever (ASF) returned negative results on the reported diseased pigs of some Sagada barangays, the Municipality of Bontoc issued an immediate temporary ban on the purchase, sale, transport, and entry of all live hogs and pork products originating from the neighboring municipality.
Through the Executive Order Number 43, Series of 2026, the measure is an effort of the capital town of Mountain Province to protect the local swine industry and maintain food security in the area.
The restriction comes as a precautionary response to recent reports from Sagada, where an unidentified swine disease has caused illness and death among pigs across several barangays.
The enforcement of strict preventive regulations until the specific illness is fully identified and contained. Bontoc officials are calling on all market vendors, transport operators, and the general public to comply strictly with the directive to safeguard local livelihoods and community resources.
Municipal leaders expressed appreciation for the public's cooperation and understanding while the health measures remain in effect.
