The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Sunday said it is prepared to take custody of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta should the Sandiganbayan order his transfer from the Philippine National Police General Hospital to the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas.
“As long as there is a court order and he is brought to us, we will receive him,” BJMP spokesperson Jayrex Joseph Bustinera said in a radio interview.
Bustinera said the Payatas facility, which houses both ordinary and high-profile detainees, has the capacity and resources to accommodate the senator.
The jail can hold about 4,000 persons deprived of liberty and currently houses around 3,300 inmates. It also has an infirmary, doctors, nurses and a diagnostic laboratory capable of treating common illnesses, including tuberculosis.
Bustinera added that Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has directed the BJMP to ensure equal treatment for all detainees regardless of social status.
