BAIC Philippines is banking on the overseas sales record of the B40e Trailmaster rEV as the electrified off-road SUV enters the local market.
The model is sold abroad as the Beijing Off-Road BJ40e REEV. It ranked as the top-selling new-energy hardcore off-road SUV in its home market for three straight months, based on industry sales data from MarkLines.
The Philippine version is now available at BAIC dealerships nationwide.
The B40e Trailmaster rEV combines an electric drive system with a gasoline engine that works as a range extender. The engine generates electricity for the battery rather than directly driving the wheels.
This system allows drivers to use electric power while reducing concerns over charging access during longer trips. It also gives the vehicle the range needed for provincial travel and outdoor trips, where charging stations may be harder to find.
BAIC built the SUV on its off-road platform. The model retains the upright shape, high ground clearance and squared body associated with the B40 line. Its cabin adds the comfort and technology expected from a modern family vehicle.
The mix gives BAIC a model for buyers who want an electrified vehicle without giving up the size and capability of a traditional sport utility vehicle.
“At BAIC, our goal is to give the modern Filipino driver new-energy SUVs that fit the way Filipinos actually live. Vehicles that are capable on any road, efficient for everyday use, and ready for any adventure,” BAIC Philippines brand head Timothy Sytin said.
The B40e Trailmaster rEV joins a growing range of BAIC electrified vehicles in the country.
The local lineup includes the B30e Dune Hybrid Off-Roader and the B60e Beaumont rEV. BAIC also offers diesel-powered and gasoline models such as the B40 Pro TrailMaster, B40 Ragnar, B60 Beaumont, B80 Wagon and X55 Verve.
BAIC Philippines has also expanded its dealer and aftersales network as it adds more vehicles to its local range. The distributor is part of the UAAGI Auto Group, which handles several automotive brands in the country.
The B40e Trailmaster rEV is also included in the UAAGI On the Move display at the SM Megamall Fashion Hall this month. The event gives mall visitors a closer look at BAIC’s current models.
Competition in the local electrified vehicle market has grown as more carmakers introduce hybrids, battery-electric vehicles and range-extended models. Most early offerings focused on sedans, crossovers and city vehicles.
Newer models now cover larger SUVs and vehicles built for rough roads. Range-extender systems could appeal to motorists who want electric driving but still need the flexibility of a fuel-powered generator for long-distance travel.
The BJ40e REEV’s three-month sales lead abroad gives BAIC a useful reference as it introduces the model to Filipino buyers. Its local performance will now depend on pricing, dealer support and how well the range-extender system suits Philippine driving conditions.
