The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has joined forces with MediaQuest Holdings Inc. to advance media and information literacy across the Philippines, the companies announced recently.
Executives from the two Manuel V. Pangilinan-led organizations formalized the partnership by signing a memorandum of agreement to back “THINKaMuna Pilipinas.” The advocacy campaign focuses on teaching citizens how to evaluate online content critically, identify credible sources, and communicate responsibly in digital spaces.
As the largest power distribution utility in the Philippines, Meralco officials said the company recognizes the vital role accurate information plays in public infrastructure and daily life.
“As a company that serves millions of Filipinos every day, we recognize the responsibility that comes with our reach and our platform,” said Ronnie L. Aperocho, Meralco executive vice president and chief operating officer.
“We want to contribute to creating an environment where credible sources are trusted and meaningful dialogue prevails over misinformation,” he added.
Aperocho stressed that when citizens choose to verify data before sharing it, they contribute to a more resilient nation.
Under the agreement, Meralco and MediaQuest Holdings plan to launch internal and public programs aimed at building media literacy habits among their workforce, consumers, and local communities.
The campaign pushes for a “THINKaMuna” mindset to make fact-checking a daily habit both online and offline.
