Bomb threat disrupts classes at Tacloban school

TACLOBAN CITY — Classes at a public school in Tacloban City were disrupted on Wednesday after authorities received a bomb threat sent through a dummy Facebook account.
The incident occurred shortly after noon at Kapuso Village Integrated School (KVIS), prompting school officials to dismiss students and suspend afternoon classes while police conducted a thorough inspection of the campus.
According to initial investigation, the threat was sent via Facebook Messenger from a dummy account to the school's official publication, claiming that a bomb had been planted inside the campus.
School principal Niño G. Acebo immediately reported the incident to the Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO) Station 3, which deployed personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the K9 Unit to verify the report.
After nearly two hours of searching the school grounds, the EOD team declared the campus safe, confirming that no explosive device or suspicious object had been found and classifying the report as a malicious hoax.
The TCPO said it is coordinating with the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 8 to trace the origin of the Facebook account used and identify the person responsible for sending the message.
Following the incident, officials of Barangay 106 said they would strengthen security not only at KVIS but also at North Hill Arbours Integrated School and Sto. Niño Elementary School.
Barangay Captain Edgar Grego said barangay tanods would be deployed continuously in the three schools to increase security visibility and assist with bag inspections and other safety measures aimed at protecting students, teachers, school personnel, and visitors.
