The Sandiganbayan Third Division has ordered an official from the Philippine National Police (PNP) to submit updates on the health and medical condition of Senator Rodante Marcoleta who remains under the custody of the PNP General Hospital.
In an order dated Wednesday, 8 July, the anti-graft court directed PNP General Hospital Director and Police Colonel John Guiagui to furnish the court with reports pertaining to the accused senator.
The documents requested from Guiagui were reports on the “current status of its custody, booking process and/or detention of accused Marcoleta” and the “latest health and medical condition of the said accused.”
Notably, the officer was also asked to provide the same documents within a non-extendible period of 24 hours.
On Monday, 6 July, Marcoleta was arrested after he surrendered to the Sandiganbayan that released a warrant of arrest against him related to his case of plunder that was filed by the Office of the Ombudsman last 3 July.
During the same day, the senator had also completed his return of warrant and was transferred to the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) where he was set to undergo booking procedures and a medical report.
There, the lawmaker was later hospitalized as it was identified that he was experiencing chest pain and elevated blood pressure.
Notably, Marcoleta has yet to be issued with his commitment order–an order that would determine what institution he would be detained.
To recall, the case stemmed from the P75-million campaign donations that were given to Marcoleta in 2025 from three private individuals that were also tagged as respondents in the case.
All three of the respondents were identified as former congressman Mike Defensor, and businessmen Joseph Espiritu and Aristotle Viray.
In a related development, Defensor, Espiritu, and Viray have completed court procedures and were brought to the New Quezon City Jail - Male Dormitory in Payatas on separate dates.
