MMSU launches solar-powered irrigation system at Dingras Campus

The Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) launched a solar-powered irrigation system at its Dingras Campus on June 30 through a partnership with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), supporting plans to develop the campus into the university's primary vegetable production hub.
NIA Division Manager Engr. Joselito De Vera formally turned over the irrigation facility to MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano during a ceremony attended by university officials, faculty members, and students.
Manzano said the project strengthens the Dingras Campus' capacity to serve as the university's main vegetable production area and supply fresh produce to its various campuses.
Representing the College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD), Dean Charlie Batin said the college is ready to manage the campus as the university's central vegetable production site.
CAFSD Dingras Program Coordinator Dr. Leo Inocencio presented the campus' planned cropping system, including production schedules for the wet and dry seasons. He said the solar-powered irrigation system will help ensure a stable water supply, particularly during the dry months.
The facility is also expected to serve as a research site for students, supporting studies on crop management, irrigation practices, and sustainable vegetable production.
Also present during the launch were Vice President for Planning and Strategic Foresight Dr. Mee Jay Domingo and College of Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Marlina Lino, who represented the vice president for academic affairs.
Following the turnover ceremony, university officials, faculty members, and students planted vegetable seedlings and papaya saplings to begin implementing the campus' cropping program.
