The Philippine Army disclosed on Thursday that Joint Task Force Agila has begun constructing temporary shelters for families displaced by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Sarangani province.
The housing initiative, dubbed “Bangon Glan,” began Wednesday in the municipality of Poblacion.
Reports disclosed that the military deployed 11 construction teams to simultaneously build the shelters.
The teams are composed of personnel from the 512th Engineer Construction Battalion, the 504th Combat Engineer Battalion, and the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit Active Auxiliaries under the 73rd Infantry Battalion.
Crews are currently conducting excavation, reinforcement bar fabrication, formwork and concrete operations for the initial phase of the project.
The collaborative rehabilitation project aims to construct 73 single-story, two-door temporary shelters. Each unit will have an estimated floor area of 23 square meters and feature timber posts on concrete pedestals, marine plywood exterior walls and corrugated galvanized iron roofing.
Engineers expect to complete each shelter within eight working days, with the entire housing project targeted for completion in about 53 working days.
Maj. Gen. Alvin Luzon, commander of the 10th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Agila, emphasized the importance of military support and interagency collaboration in accelerating community rehabilitation.
“The construction of these temporary shelters demonstrates our commitment to helping earthquake-affected families recover and rebuild their lives,” Luzon said. “Joint Task Force Agila remains steadfast in providing the manpower and engineering capability needed to hasten the rehabilitation process.”
