More than 1.1 million minimum wage earners in the National Capital Region (NCR) will receive an P85 increase in their daily pay, marking the largest single daily wage adjustment enacted in Metro Manila, labor officials announced Tuesday.
Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) Secretary Francis N. Tolentino announced the adjustment during a town hall meeting with market vendors and construction workers in Malabon.
The increase under Wage Order No. NCR-27 will bring the daily minimum wage for non-agricultural workers up to P780.
For agricultural workers, service and retail establishments employing 15 or fewer people, and manufacturing plants with fewer than 10 workers, the new daily rate will be P743.
The adjustment will take effect in two tranches. The first tranche of P60 will begin 19 July, followed by an additional P25 on 20 January 2027.
Tolentino said the increase follows a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to improve workers’ earnings amid rising living costs. He also thanked private employers for supporting the decision.
DoLE, along with the National Wages and Productivity Commission, will launch information campaigns to ensure business compliance and help companies manage potential wage distortions within their salary structures.
Labor officials added that other regional wage boards across the country are reviewing local economic conditions and holding consultations to assess potential pay adjustments in their respective areas.
