The Department of Justice (DOJ) said Tuesday it is prepared to handle any cases that may arise from the unannounced rally staged by members of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) near the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City, which disrupted traffic in the area.
Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida said prosecutors are ready to perform their duties should law enforcement authorities make arrests or file complaints in connection with the mass gathering.
Vida said the DOJ remains on standby to carry out its mandate whenever violations of the law are committed.
"We will always be ready because it is our mandate," Vida said.
"If someone violates the law, the law enforcement agencies are ready, and so are our prosecutors, to perform their duties," he added.
An estimated 10,000 people gathered near the EDSA People Power Monument on Tuesday, causing heavy traffic in parts of Quezon City and prompting authorities to temporarily close several roads.
Many participants were seen wearing shirts from previous INC-led rallies, including the National Rally for Peace in January 2025 and the Rally for Transparency and Accountability in November 2025.
As of Tuesday, authorities had yet to announce whether any arrests had been made or violations recorded during the gathering.
The DOJ, however, said it is prepared to conduct inquest proceedings should cases be referred to prosecutors.
