The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) on Friday identified the members of the men's and women's Alas Pilipinas volleyball pools, including their head coaches, for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
The pools are composed mostly of players who saw action in the FIVB Men's World Championship, which the Philippines hosted last September, and the Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok last December.
POC president Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino said secretary-general Atty. Wharton Chan had sent letters informing Italian coach Angiolino Frigoni and Japanese coach Takayuki Minowa of their reappointments as head coaches of the Alas Pilipinas men's and women's teams, respectively, for the Asian Games scheduled from 19 September to 4 October.
Their appointments take effect on 1 July and will expire on 15 October.
The POC also sought the full support of the Premier Volleyball League through president Ricky Palou and commissioner Sherwin Malonzo, as most members of the Alas Pilipinas women's pool are currently playing for PVL clubs.
Named to the women's pool are Jia De Guzman, Justine Yliyzeth Jazareno, Jennifer Nierva, Mhicaela Belen, Eya Laure, Angel Anne Canino, Thea Gagate, Fifi Sharma, Vanessa Gandler, Alleiah Jan Malaluan, Amie Provido, Nina Ytang, Janette Panaga, Erika Santos, Arah Panique, Marionne Angelique Alba, Maria Angelica Cayuna, Shaira Jardio and Alyssa Jae Solomon.
Shaina Nitura was initially included in the pool but will miss the Asian Games after undergoing ankle surgery that requires a three-month recovery.
The men's pool is composed of Bryan Bagunas, Marck Espejo, Lloyd Josafat, Jude Garcia, Michaelo Buddin, Leo Ordiales, Al Bukharie Sali, Rwenzmel Taguibolos, Ave Joshua Retamar, Josh Ybañez, Adrian Villados, Vince Patrick Lorenzo, Kristofer Rodge Alejos and Trevor Torio.
The POC is overseeing the national volleyball program while the country's national federation remains suspended by the FIVB. It is also responsible for supervising and managing Philippine national teams for the Olympic Games, Asian Games and Southeast Asian Games.
The deadline for submitting the Entry by Name to the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organizing Committee is 1 July.
