Loaded revolver, bladed weapon seized from students at Cagayan school

Police confiscated a loaded .38-caliber revolver and a bladed weapon from two minor students at the Aparri School of Arts and Trade (ASAT) in Barangay Maura on Friday, 26 June, after school officials discovered the weapons during an inspection prompted by a commotion involving three learners.
According to the investigation, personnel from the 1st Maneuver Force Platoon of the 2nd Cagayan Provincial Mobile Force Company, led by Police Senior Master Sgt. Ericson A. Bermendi, were conducting a visibility patrol in the area when they stopped at the school to coordinate with administrators on the conduct of an anti-bullying lecture.
Upon arriving at the principal’s office, the officers found three students who had been summoned by school principal Edward Garcia over their alleged involvement in a commotion.
As a security precaution, Garcia asked the students to voluntarily empty the contents of their bags.
One of the students, identified only by the alias “Mushly,” 15, allegedly produced a .38-caliber revolver wrapped in a face towel. Another student, identified only as “Jake,” 14, brought out a bladed weapon from his bag. No prohibited item was recovered from the third learner, identified only by the alias “Mike.”
The principal immediately sought the assistance of the police officers, who secured the confiscated items. A subsequent inspection showed that the revolver was loaded with two rounds of ammunition.
The parents of the three minors were immediately summoned to the school, while the students and the recovered items were turned over to the Aparri Municipal Police Station for proper investigation and appropriate disposition.
Authorities said the incident involves possible violations of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Batas Pambansa Blg. 6, which regulates the carrying of bladed weapons.
The identities of the minors are being withheld in accordance with laws protecting children in conflict with the law.
