Authorities are preparing a criminal complaint against David Alfred de Guzman, 24, the son of Marikina Vice Mayor Del de Guzman, following the death of a public-school teacher injured in a road crash on 13 June.
Police said De Guzman was driving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that struck 27-year-old Alexander Cruz, who was riding a motorcycle at the corner of Gen. Ordoñez and Russet streets in Barangay Concepcion Dos.
Cruz was rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center, where he remained in a coma for a week before succumbing to his injuries on 20 June.
Police reported that De Guzman tested positive for alcohol after undergoing a breath analyzer test. He was later released from police custody after posting bail.
Authorities have already filed charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries and property damage, as well as violation of the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act.
With Cruz's death, authorities are now preparing the appropriate criminal complaint in connection with the fatal incident.
