The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a show cause order against a pilot that was recorded waving his gun at a fellow motorist at a mall in Mandaluyong City over a supposed dispute for parking space.
Authorities said that their initial investigation into the incident revealed that after an altercation between the two drivers, the accused would supposedly reveal his gun in an effort to intimidate the couple that he was confronting that was also recording the video.
In a statement on the matter, LTO Chief Markus Lacanilao stated that the behavior fell beyond the expectations of how a person with a driver’s license was expected to handle such a situation.
“Any form of threats, violence, or aggressive behavior of motorists is not acceptable and goes against the principles that should prevail for every responsible driver of a vehicle,” Lacanilao said.
“Every person that possesses a license is expected to showcase discipline, patience, and respect for others in every opportunity,” he added.
Given the incident, the driver and the registered owner of the vehicle were ordered to submit a formal explanation on why their license should not be suspended or revoked based on a case of being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
In the meantime, the license of the driver was placed on a 90 day preventive suspension while the vehicle that was used was placed on alarm status as the investigations on the incident proceed.
The transportation agency urged the public to refrain from engaging in any form of threats and violence, noting that regardless of a person’s profession, an individual is not above the law.
It further stated that it is in times of sudden anger and frustration that the lives of other people are placed in danger.
