Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (DLPC), a unit of Aboitiz Power Corp., will begin upgrading electric distribution in the Island Garden City of Samal after assuming control of assets from Northern Davao Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NORDECO).

The company confirmed on Thursday that the Regional Trial Court – Panabo Branch 4 took possession of NORDECO’s distribution assets and legally turned over control to DLPC.

“With the transfer complete, we will begin necessary improvements to provide reliable and efficient service,” DLPC said.

It added that it “remains open to constructive dialogue with NORDECO to support an orderly transition” and “will adhere to the Court’s directives and continue to prioritize stability, continuity, and dependable electric service for the community.”

The takeover follows a 23 January court ruling granting DLPC control of NORDECO’s assets in Samal Island. NORDECO was served a Notice to Vacate on 19 February.

DLPC holds a franchise under Republic Act No. 12144 to serve Samal Island, the rest of Davao del Norte, and Davao de Oro.

The Supreme Court upheld the law on 14 January, and the Energy Regulatory Commission issued a provisional certificate allowing the company to operate in the two provinces.
