Iloilo stages full-scale drill ahead of ASEAN integration meet

ILOILO CITY — Iloilo City conducted a comprehensive emergency drill to test its disaster response capabilities ahead of the 49th High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Economic Integration.

The full-scale simulation was led by the Regional Incident Management Team (STGEPR-RIMT) under the supervision of OCD 6 Regional Director Raul Fernandez. The exercise aimed to assess the city’s preparedness in handling emergencies during the high-level international gathering.

The scenario simulated a moderate earthquake striking the venue in the middle of a session, triggering emergency protocols.

Authorities activated the Incident Command System, established a Unified Command structure and coordinated response efforts among medical teams, search-and-rescue units, firefighters and air evacuation personnel.

Participants conducted casualty triage, documentation, light debris removal, safe extrication and rapid response to simulated electrical fires. An aeromedical evacuation was also carried out to practice patient transfer procedures.

Officials said the drill highlighted the importance of seamless inter-agency coordination during high-pressure situations.

“This drill strengthens our operational readiness and builds confidence that any emergency can be managed swiftly and safely,” Fernandez said.

By simulating real-life crisis scenarios, the city underscored its capacity for coordinated disaster response while reinforcing its commitment to ensuring the safety of international delegates during the summit.
