The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continued clearing operations in several parts of the country under Oplan Kontra Baha, Secretary Vince Dizon said.
In Bacolod City, personnel removed 29 illegal structures in Barangays 1 and 2 to make way for an amphibious excavator to dredge and unclog waterways and drainage channels. The move is intended to restore water flow and reduce flood risk in the area during heavy rains.
Dizon also said the agency is preparing to open the Maa-Magtuod Flyover in Davao City after five years of construction. Pavement markings and railings are being fast-tracked to ensure safety for motorists.
Other ongoing projects include a temporary bridge connector in Isabela, which is 89-percent complete and expected to open in March for light vehicles, and planning for a more permanent bridge in Sitio Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro.
The DPWH has submitted a report to the Office of the President detailing the status of major infrastructure projects nationwide. These include repair works on the Bukidnon–Davao Road, a sinkhole on Kennon Road, the Apalit section of the MacArthur Highway-Buhang Flyover in Jaro, Iloilo, and sections of the Maharlika Highway in Gumaca, Quezon, Samar, and Guinobatan, Albay. Phase I of the EDSA Rehabilitation Project is now 49.4-percent complete and expected to finish in June.
The President has ordered Cabinet members to file biweekly progress reports on infrastructure projects, with warnings against falsified submissions.
