The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has committed an initial P5 million to support the Philippine Women’s National Football Team, the Filipinas, in the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup scheduled for March 1-21 in Australia.

The funding, channeled through the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), will help cover training camps, international friendlies, and other preparations as the team builds on their historic gold medal win at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games.

PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco emphasized that backing national athletes is both a duty and an investment in national pride. “Our athletes carry the Philippine flag onto the world stage, and their victories inspire millions,” he said.

The support comes after a Supreme Court ruling directing PAGCOR to remit the Philippine Sports Commission’s five-percent share of its gross revenues, allowing more resources for national sports programs.

PFF President John Anthony Gutierrez welcomed the assistance, noting that sustained support from government and private partners is crucial for preparing the team to compete at Asia’s highest level and beyond, including the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“Competing at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup requires significant resources for high-level training and international exposure,” he said. “Continued support from our partners ensures that our athletes are fully equipped to compete with Asia’s best.”
