The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said it remains focused on cutting back poorly maintained terminals in the country this Tuesday.
Since the start of the program this year, LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said that the agency has inspected 243 terminals nationwide, 116 of which were issued show-cause orders.
The orders were handed down by the agency as a result of observations of insufficient facilities, particularly regarding comfort rooms, proper seating for passengers waiting at the terminals, and support for seniors and persons with disabilities.
Mendoza emphasized that the LTFRB is stringent in its commitment to ensuring that public transportation in the country is a safe, reliable, and comfortable experience for Filipinos.
“We will not hesitate to shut down the operations of these terminal managers, some of them are connected with transportation companies,” he said.
“The agreement is clear: the government authorizes them to operate a terminal under the condition that they will provide basic facilities to ensure passenger comfort and safety.”
Mendoza was also eager to hold operators who take their passengers for granted accountable, as the LTFRB seeks to comply with the mandate of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. to put the welfare of commuters first.
The LTFRB Chairperson declared that the department will look to make random inspections a “new normal,” noting that it is the agency’s obligation to Filipino commuters.
“This will continue because the goal is to make the conduct of regular inspection a new normal. This is the obligation of the LTFRB to the Filipino commuters, and we will comply,” he stated.
