Cainta, Rizal Mayor Keith Nieto has returned to work after being hospitalized for severe chest pains.
Clad in a polo barong (short-sleeved barong tagalog), Nieto made a suprise appearance during Monday's flag-raising ceremony. Many people thought that he will resume work in March after recovering from heart surgery.
The mayor also raffled off money or cash prizes to the municipal employees. Ten lucky winners won P500; P1,000; P2,000; P3,000; P5,000; and two winners of P10,000 each.
After the flag-raising ceremony, Nieto went straight to the One Cainta Convention Center to distribute social pensions to the senior citizens.
In his office, Nieto immediately received residents seeking financial assistance and other concerns, as the local chief executive is known for providing prompt solutions to any problem his constituents face—whether big or small.
Nieto took a medical break on 26 January 2026 after experiencing severe chest pains. Angiogram procedure revealed mutiple blocks in all his major arteries.
The mayor underwent a successful heart surgery on 30 January, which lasted for more than three hours.
