World Boxing Council (WBC) strawweight champion Melvin Jerusalem was left broken-hearted on Valentine’s Day.
No, it wasn’t because he and his girlfriend broke up.
So what’s the reason behind it?
His 14 March unification showdown with Puerto Rican two-belt titleholder Oscar Collazo was scrapped.
The Filipino champion could not say exactly when the fight’s going to happen.
“I was just told that it will be in June or July,” said Jerusalem, adding that promotional issues forced the cancellation of their supposed battle next month in Los Angeles.
“I was already feeling great in training and preparing to leave for the United States then this happened,” he added.
He had been in training mode since early-December when it was agreed that he and Collazo, holder of the World Boxing Organization and World Boxing Association 105-pound jewels, would square off.
The fight was good to go until a couple of days ago as they already have a signed contract.
In the meantime, all Jerusalem can do is wait.
He can’t afford to look for a fight given that he is contractually bound and there is not enough time to engage in one even if he is allowed to.
