A Philippine Airlines flight bound for Manila was forced to return to Puerto Princesa International Airport on Saturday evening after experiencing a landing gear issue shortly after takeoff.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed Sunday that Flight GAP2788 landed safely at 7:12 p.m. following the precautionary measure. Emergency and safety protocols were strictly observed during the return, according to the agency.

Maintenance teams performed troubleshooting and system tests on the aircraft while it remained on the tarmac. After technicians confirmed that the landing gear and related systems were operating normally, the aircraft was cleared for departure at 12:19 a.m.

The flight arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila at 1:15 a.m. Sunday.

Airline staff provided meals to passengers during the five-hour delay. While some travelers opted to be accommodated on alternative flights, 61 passengers and one infant remained on the original aircraft to complete the journey.

CAAP officials reiterated the agency’s commitment to aviation safety standards and the well-being of the riding public.
