University of Perpetual Help System Dalta stays hot as it booked a 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 win over Jose Rizal University in Season 101 National Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the San Andres Gym in Malate, Manila.

Cy Almeniana shone anew, posting 16 attacks and two aces for 18 points to lead the Lady Altas to the impressive win that came on the heels of their breakthrough victory over reigning champion College of Saint Benilde over the weekend.

Almeniana said her solid performance is the result of her hard work following an injury-plagued season.

“After recovering from injuries last season, I spent my time improving my game,” said Almeniana, who also erupted for a career-best 27 points in their previous win — their first victory over the Lady Blazers since 2019.

“It’s now a matter of consistency. That will help us maintain our performance.”

Perpetual coach Sandy Rieta lauded the effort of his wards, saying that their focus on defense led to a lot of attacking opportunities that boosted their confidence in this match that lasted for one hour and 32 minutes.

“I told them to just focus on defense. If we do that, our offense, our attacks will improve. I also told them to treat each game as if it is their last,” said Rieta, who also drew 14 points from Jemalyn Menor and 11 markers from Shaila Omipon.

“Let’s not follow their tempo. We have our own beat so let’s dance to our music.”

Czarina Ramos fired 12 points and five digs while Nicole Deala with 11 markers for the Lady Heavy Bombers, who suffered their first loss in two matches.
