Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) said its airport portfolio handled 16.17 million passengers in 2025, reflecting sustained growth in air travel across the Visayas and Northern Mindanao and reinforcing its position as the country’s largest airport operator outside Metro Manila.
Passenger traffic was led by Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), which served 11.6 million passengers, nearly 3% higher than the 11.3 million recorded in 2024. Laguindingan International Airport (LIA) handled 2.35 million passengers, while Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) recorded 2.22 million.
LIA and BPIA were formally turned over to AIC in April and June 2025, respectively. From the time of their handover, LIA logged 1.6 million passengers, while BPIA served 1.07 million, highlighting steady traffic growth under the new operator.
MCIA remains the busiest airport outside Manila, while LIA and BPIA rank as the country’s sixth- and ninth-busiest gateways, respectively.
“2025 has been a landmark year for our airports as we continued to expand connectivity for both domestic and international travelers. Passengers arriving at MCIA, LIA, and BPIA now have easier access to key destinations across Cebu, Bohol, and Northern Mindanao, making travel within the Philippines more seamless than ever,” said Rafael M. Aboitiz, vice president and head of AIC Airports.
AIC said the passenger growth was recorded despite major disruptions that affected the Visayas-Mindanao region last year, including the 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu; the 7.4-magnitude earthquake in Davao Oriental; and typhoons that struck Western Visayas.
MCIA, which was named Airport of the Year – Asia at the TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards 2025, introduced new exclusive nonstop routes in 2025, including flights to Siquijor via Sunlight Air and to San Vicente, Palawan via Cebu Pacific.
The airport also rolled out three key connectivity initiatives—CEB Connects, CEB+, and CEB Balik—aimed at improving passenger transfers, linking air and sea travel, and strengthening Cebu’s role as a gateway for overseas Filipino workers. AIC said these initiatives helped improve travel efficiency and supported regional tourism, business travel, and economic activity.
Aboitiz InfraCapital operates MCIA, LIA, and BPIA under its Airports platform, alongside investments in water, transport, and digital infrastructure nationwide.
