The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said more than 1.3 million Filipinos have applied to vote for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE).

Data released by the poll body showed that as of 18 January 2026, a total of 1,356,410 individuals had registered for the BSKE, with 718,457 female and 637,943 male applicants.

Of the total registrants, 1,028,835 were regular voters aged 18 years old and above, while 327,575 were Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) applicants.

Comelec said 322,402 of the SK applicants were new registrants. Meanwhile, 1,152 applicants requested transfers from another city or municipality, while 384 sought transfers within the same locality.

Applications for new regular voters reached 367,859, while those seeking reactivation of voter records totaled 13,174.

Region IV-A (Calabarzon) recorded the highest number of applicants at 271,033, followed by Region III (Central Luzon) with 159,473, and the National Capital Region with 157,421.

A total of 2,186 registrants applied through the Special Register Anywhere Program (SRAP) at the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila.

Nationwide voter registration for the 2026 BSKE resumed on 20 October 2025, and will continue until 18 May 2026. However, registration is suspended in areas under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao due to the postponement of the first-ever parliamentary elections.

Comelec said applicants may register from Monday to Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at satellite registration sites or at their respective offices of election officers.

The registration period covers all application types, including new registration, transfer of records, correction of entries, change of name or status, reactivation, inclusion, and reinstatement in the list of voters.

Earlier, Comelec said it aims to register 1.4 million new voters for the 2026 BSKE during the months-long registration drive.

In August, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed into law a measure postponing the BSKE from 1 December 2025 to the first Monday of November 2026, and every four years thereafter.
