The national men’s football team is set to have an early rematch with powerhouse Thailand when it competes in the ASEAN Hyundai Cup on 24 July.
The Filipinos and the Thais are both drawn in Group B, setting the stage for the rivalry match in this prestigious regional tournament.
Joining the Philippines and Thailand in Group B are Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos while heavyweight Indonesia will join Singapore, Cambodia, defending champion Vietnam and the survivor in the playoff between host Brunei and Timor Leste.
The last time the Filipinos faced the Thais was in 2024 with the latter posting an aggregate 4-3 victory in their two-legged semifinals series to advance to the championship round.
The Thais, however, bowed to the Vietnamese, 3-5, in their home-and-away title series.
Expected to banner for the Filipinos are Bjorn Kristensen, Sandro Reyes, Jarvey Gayoso and Gerritt Holtmann under the guidance of Carles Cuadrat.
