President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. returned to San Francisco High School (SFHS) in Bago Bantay on Friday to inspect the reconstruction of a building destroyed by fire and to lead a medical mission for students and faculty.
The visit was the president’s second to the campus since a June 15 fire razed the 45-year-old, two-story DAO building. Following his initial inspection just days after the blaze, Marcos ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to replace the 10 destroyed classrooms with a modern four-story structure.
The new facility will feature 36 classrooms and is slated for completion by the start of the next school year. Marcos also announced that the SM Group has agreed to build an additional 24 classrooms to support the school’s population of more than 6,800 students.
“We look forward to the completion of this by the beginning of the next school year,” Marcos said during the site visit. He was accompanied by Education Secretary Sonny Angara, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.
Alongside the inspection, the president oversaw the year’s first “YAKAP at Kalinga” medical caravan.
The program, a joint project of the Department of Education and PhilHealth, serves as an expanded health consultation initiative for the public school system.
Medical teams from the Quezon City Health Office provided vision screenings and laboratory tests using the “Lab for All” mobile medical van. The mission also provided free medicines and on-site PhilHealth registration for teachers and staff.
