Aboitiz Renewables Inc., the renewable energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation, received multiple safety recognitions at the 20th Energy Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Conference organized by the Safety and Health Association of the Philippines Energy Sector (SHAPES) in partnership with the Department of Energy.
The awards recognized several Aboitiz Renewables facilities for achieving sustained “Zero Lost Time Incidents,” reflecting long periods without work-related injuries or accidents across its nationwide operations.
Five facilities were cited during the conference: the Tiwi Geothermal Plant in Albay, which has recorded zero lost time incidents for 16 years; Hedcor Sibulan, Inc. – Tudaya in Davao del Sur for 11 years; San Carlos Sun Power in Negros Occidental for eight years; the Makban Geothermal Plant spanning Laguna and Batangas for seven years; and Hedcor Bukidnon, Inc. in Manolo Fortich for four years.
“These numbers represent thousands of hours of safe shifts where our team members returned home safely to their families,” said Aboitiz Renewables Chief Operating Officer Alexander Coo. “Safety is not just a priority for us; Safety, Health, and Environment or SHE is in our DNA. We encourage everyone to remain vigilant and continue strengthening our practices across all operations.”
In addition to facility-level awards, SHAPES and the DOE also recognized five Aboitiz Renewables employees as Outstanding Safety and Health Professionals. They include Jim Rey Recierdo of the Tiwi Geothermal Plant; Annie Rhie Esguerra of Hedcor Sibulan; Dave Pinote of San Carlos Sun Power; Jud Torres of the Makban Geothermal Plant; and Brian Gam of Hedcor Bukidnon.
During the conference, Aboitiz Renewables shared its safety programs and practices with other industry participants. These include its Electronic Permit-to-Work system, a digital platform designed to reduce procedural errors; the WATCH mobile application for hazard identification; the HealthyMe, HealthyAPRI framework for occupational health monitoring; and the KAISA program, which aligns contractors with the company’s safety standards.
The company said its safety culture is guided by the principle “Make it Safe. Make it Personal. Make it Home,” emphasizing individual accountability and vigilance in maintaining a zero-incident workplace across all operations.
