Amid the usual rush of New Year’s Eve preparations, a quieter but heartfelt gathering unfolded at Cinema 1 of Vertis North in Quezon City on 31 December 2025. While many were gearing up for the countdown, Kathryn Bernardo and nearly her entire family spent the day attending a special screening of UnMarry, an official entry in the Metro Manila Film Festival produced by Quantum Films and Cineko Productions.
The screening felt less like a typical movie outing and more like a family reunion, with the Bernardos turning out in full force to support a project that carried special meaning. UnMarry marks the first film co-produced by Kathryn’s mother, Min Bernardo, making the occasion deeply personal.
Adding to the warmth of the moment was the fact that Kathryn had no prior knowledge of her mother’s involvement in the film. According to Mommy Min, the decision to co-produce was never discussed at home, making the reveal a genuine surprise.
“Ay, no! Hindi niya alam,” she said, recalling how Kathryn only found out after seeing a social media post announcing the film’s producers. “Nagulat nga siya. Even Ria, nagulat din.”
Kathryn confirmed the unexpected discovery with amusement. “Oo! Nakakagulat siya! Nagulat nga din ako. Na-surprise,” she said, laughing as she recalled the moment she realized her mother was behind the project.
For Mommy Min, seeing UnMarry expand to additional theaters was already a rewarding outcome. Asked about the MMFF awards night, she expressed mixed emotions, particularly for the film’s lead star Angelica Panganiban, who did not take home the Best Actress award.
“So far… nanghinayang lang ako kay Angge. Well, anyway, ganun talaga. May nanalo, may natatalo,” she said candidly.
The screening also became a bonding moment for Kathryn, who emphasized that her main goal was to support her mother’s first co-produced film. “Support kay Mama! Yes!” she said enthusiastically. She added that she plans to watch other MMFF entries afterward but made it clear that UnMarry came first.
“I’ll watch the other MMFF movies after this. I just wanted to prioritize my mom’s film because I heard there are so many good ones,” she said.
Kathryn also praised the film’s performances, singling out Zac Sibug for his standout work. The afternoon was capped by the arrival of Quantum Films’ Atty. Joji Alonso and actor Zac, who flew in straight from a holiday trip in Hong Kong to attend the screening—highlighting the collective excitement surrounding the film.
