Boracay Water, a Non-East Zone subsidiary of Razon-led Manila Water, has expanded its sewer network in Barangay Balabag and parts of Yapak on Boracay Island, Aklan to address rising wastewater management needs from ongoing developments.
The company said Monday that the expansion, which is under the Yapak Bypass Project, increased sewer coverage on the island from 61 percent to 67 percent, boosting the volume of treated wastewater and allowing the company to accommodate flows from Yapak and Balabag.
Connected accounts surged 493 percent, from 30 in December 2024 to 178 in October 2025.
Through its free connection program, Project Monsoon, Boracay Water has linked 230 households—roughly 1,150 residents—to its sewer system, ensuring proper wastewater treatment and disposal.
“Boracay Water remains steadfast in its mission to provide effective water and wastewater services while protecting the island’s natural beauty and ensure long-term sustainability,” said Joanna Intas, Acting General Manager of Boracay Water.
“By expanding our sewer network, we not only help maintain the pristine condition of Boracay for tourism but also provide customers with the assurance that their wastewater is properly treated in our sewer treatment plants. This means cleaner surroundings, improved public health, and a safer environment for residents and visitors alike,” she added.
The project complies with the Philippine Clean Water Act, the Sanitation Code, and Malay’s Municipal Ordinance No. 550, which requires sewer connections within 100 meters of an available network.
Boracay Water is under Manila Water Philippine Ventures and a concessionaire of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority.
