The Philippine National Police said it will file administrative and criminal charges against a police officer accused of firing his service firearm in front of three minors in Parañaque City.
The incident allegedly occurred after the officer confronted children who were making noise and setting off fireworks.
Police said the officer reportedly drew his 9mm service firearm and fired it in front of the minors, causing fear and emotional distress.
PNP Acting Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said an investigation is ongoing and assured the public that firm action will be taken if the officer is found liable.
Nartatez stressed that the PNP will not tolerate any act that compromises public safety, trust, and confidence, particularly abuse of authority by its personnel.
