TNT head coach Chot Reyes couldn’t be prouder of the grit and heart shown by his severely depleted team.
De La Salle University coach Topex Robinson refused to take all the credit, saying that his support crew did a fantastic job that led to their victory in Season 88 University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament.
Robinson having a group of brilliant basketball minds on the bench was truly a blessing as they guided him until they beat powerhouse University of the Philippines in a thrilling best-of-three finals series last week.
“I think one of the big keys for this win is these guys really helped me out a lot. Yes, I might be the head coach, but I’m so fortunate to have all those coaches — coach Caloy Garcia, coach Gian (Nazario), coach Mon (Jose), coach Oliver (Bunyi), coach JB (Sison), even coach Renren (Ritualo) and Marlon (Celis),” the third-year mentor said.
“I guess having those guys around really is a blessing to me. Because there are times that I could be vulnerable to these guys and tell them that I’m tired,” he added.
La Salle’s campaign to reclaim the throne it lost last year was a long and difficult one.
But the Green Archers overcame all adversities — injuries, suspensions and bad games.
Robinson faced heavy pressure but hurdled it all with the help of his coaching staff.
“You know, I’m scared, I’m worried, I have so much anxiety. And they’re always caring for you. You know, it’s always nice to have an environment where you can be yourself,” Robinson said.
He’s just grateful to have a heavenly cast of gentlemen beside him.
