De La Salle University has found somebody who will fill the massive void created by the departure of star forward Kevin Quiambao.
Green Archers coach Topex Robinson said their latest recruit in former University of Perpetual Help System Dalta star Lebron Jhames Daep has what it takes to become a prized forward in Season 88 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament.
Robinson said he already worked with the 6-foot-7 Daep, where he realized that he has a golden potential to play the role that Quiambao used to have at the La Salle frontline.
“The thing about Lebron was that he’s versatile and skilled. So we’re really excited to have him,” said Robinson, referring to the lanky slotman who was named as the No. 2 high school player in the country by the National Basketball Training Center.
“I told him that you have to play the same way as KQ (Quiambao). He really loves playing in the wing and he’s really excited.”
Robinson also extended his gratitude to Daep’s father, Rommel, picking them among their long list of recruiters.
“I am thankful to Coach Rommel for entrusting his son, Lebron, to me and La Salle,” Robinson, who played with Daep’s father at San Sebastian College in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
“It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to guide such a talented young man and we’re excited to have him as part of the Green Archers.”
The 19-year-old Daep’s arrival is definitely a big boost to the Green Archers.
He will join a powerhouse cast that has Mason Amos, Luis Pablo and veteran Mike Phillips in the frontcourt together with playmakers Jacob Cortez and Kean Baclaan in the backcourt.
Robinson is thrilled to have Daep on board.
“At least he’ll get to play with Mike this season and two more years with Luis and Mason,” he said, adding that he expects Daep to hit the ground running, especially after coming off a historic title run with the Junior Altas in the NCAA in which he also emerged as Most Valuable Player.
“He’s a champion player, so we don’t expect him to be fluttered by pressure and he fits just right with the program that we have.”
