CJ Cansino’s readiness for Meralco has come in handy as they punched their ticket to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup quarterfinals.
The former University of the Philippines (UP) star said he kept on making his shots as he was reminded to stay aggressive.
Cansino dropped a career-high 29 points for the Bolts in their 105-84 win over Converge last Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
“It just so happened I would get the ball. We were reminded to be aggressive but be smart,” Cansino said.
“The game was important for us and I am just thankful I was able to help the team.”
Meralco head coach Luigi Trillo praised Cansino’s hustle in their quarterfinal bid.
“CJ is stepping up. It’s actually his fifth Best Player honors in six games and what’s good for him is he’s playing defense too,” Trillo said.
The Bolts have one more game on Friday as they take on San Miguel Beer at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
At press time, Magnolia and Rain or Shine are duking it out at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Bahrain.
The Elasto Painters, armed with a 7-2 win-loss record, hope to take the top spot at the expense of the Hotshots, who hold a 6-3 card.
