The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) retrieved “a lot of documents” during a search of the condominium unit belonging to resigned congressman Zaldy Co in Taguig City, NBI spokesperson Palmer Mallari confirmed Friday.

Mallari, a lawyer, disclosed that the search warrant operation conducted Thursday at Co’s residence was successful, with agents securing documents that have a “bearing on the investigation.”

He added that the paper trail secured during the search matched the NBI’s earlier findings, though details could not yet be disclosed to avoid compromising ongoing actions.

The NBI secured the search warrant, issued by the Regional Trial Court of Taguig, to seize evidence related to graft cases filed against Co in connection with an allegedly anomalous flood control project in Oriental Mindoro.

Last week, NBI officer-in-charge Angelito Magno said initial findings provided a basis to believe that Co may still be a beneficial owner of Sunwest Construction, despite the former legislator’s repeated claims that he had divested from the company.

Acting on a separate Makati Regional Trial Court-issued inspection order, NBI agents had previously searched two condominium units owned by Co at Horizon Tower in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, on Tuesday, 2 December.

In other developments, Department of Justice (DoJ) on Friday said it has not confirmed the issuance of an Interpol  Red Notice against Co.

“No confirmation from the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime (PCTC),” DoJ spokesperson Polo Martinez told reporters when asked about an Interpol alert for Co.

Earlier, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. revealed that Co, along with 17 others, was facing a warrant of arrest after being indicted on graft charges linked to flood control corruption.
