The Philippines has retained its status on the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) list of member states that meet the minimum requirements for the issuance of Seafarers’ Identity Documents (SIDs), the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) said on Monday.
MARINA noted that the country maintained its standing following the ILO Governing Body’s 355th Session, where the procedures for issuing SIDs were evaluated by a review group composed of representatives from international organizations and ratifying states.
“The Review Group endorsed the Philippines’ continued compliance, highlighting the nation’s adherence to the updated technical standards and processes outlined by the ILO Convention (Revised), 2003, as amended (No. 185),” MARINA said.
In a notice published on 19 November, the ILO said the governing body approved the country’s retention on the list based on the office’s assessment and the report of the review group.
MARINA added that the Philippines has yet to receive the official correspondence.
The ILO listing recognizes countries that satisfy the requirements of the convention on processing, security features, and issuance systems for SIDs.
