CLIA Pouso Alegre, a business unit of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) in Brazil, has inaugurated the expansion of its Logistics and Industrial Center.

Located in Minas Gerais near major airports and seaports, the expanded facility strengthens the logistics link between the Port of Rio de Janeiro and Southern Minas Gerais—a region with a diverse industrial base and rising demand for integrated logistics services.

The expansion adds 30,000 square meters of bonded area, 2,000 square meters of Brazilian health regulatory agency ANVISA-certified refrigerated storage, and a container depot. With greater capacity and improved efficiency, companies in the region can reduce logistics costs and shorten import and export lead times.

The event also marked the launch of the Rio-Minas corridor, a logistics route designed to improve regional integration, efficiency, and competitiveness. The multimodal solution offers proximity, cost savings, and operational reliability, positioning Rio Brasil Terminal (RBT) as a competitive alternative to ports currently experiencing congestion.

ICTSI said the upgraded center reflects RBT and CLIA Pouso Alegre’s commitment to operational safety, environmental stewardship, and technical excellence. Both firms aim to strengthen connectivity and support regional importers and exporters.

Trade between Brazil and the Philippines is largely maritime, with Philippine imports from Brazil reaching over $2.3 billion (approximately P134.5 billion) in 2024, driven by iron ore, grains such as corn and soy, sugar, and frozen meats—all transported via bulk carriers or reefer/container vessels.

The expansion of CLIA Pouso Alegre enhances capacity for trade with markets like the Philippines through ICTSI, which continues to advance sustainable public–private partnerships supported by corporate social responsibility initiatives.
