All Bacoor cop suspects surrender

All the police officers allegedly involved in the shocking robbery-rape incident in Bacoor City are now in the hands of authorities after the six remaining officers at large surrendered, according to Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) acting director Brig. Gen. Elmer Ragay on Monday.

Ragay said the surrender began at 1:30 p.m. on 27 November and was completed by 5:40 p.m., with the six officers arriving at PDEG headquarters accompanied by family members and legal counsel. “Around 1:30 p.m. of Nov. 27, they started to surrender… by 5:40 p.m. they were all delivered to my office,” Ragay said in a mix of English and Filipino.

The six officers were part of the 14 policemen involved in what was supposed to be an anti-illegal drug operation targeting the victim’s boyfriend, who allegedly evaded arrest.

The 18-year-old victim reported to the National Police Commission that on November 22, the officers barged into her home, allegedly robbed her and her cousin, and, disturbingly, one officer allegedly raped her. She added that the police did not introduce themselves, did not present any documents such as search warrants, were not in uniform, and wore masks covering their faces.

The six officers have now been brought to the PNP Headquarters Support Service (HSS) and are facing rape and robbery charges, joining the eight officers already in custody. They are also facing administrative cases before the National Police Commission.

Ragay confirmed that all officers involved have been relieved from their posts and placed under restrictive custody. “If we follow restrictive custody, they have been relieved, reassigned to the Headquarter Support Service, and are now detained in the HSS facility,” he said.

Unit commanders implicated in the incident have been replaced, while personnel not involved remain in their posts.

This latest development marks a significant step in holding law enforcement accountable amid serious allegations of abuse of power.
