Another figure implicated in the anomalous flood control scheme has fallen into the hands of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the CIDG confirmed on Wednesday.
Engineer Montrexis Tamayo, the former head of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Mimaropa Planning and Design Division, became the ninth accused to stand before the anti-graft court in the widening corruption probe.
Tamayo surfaced at the Sandiganbayan to answer the graft charges. He is facing malversation through falsification and violation raps in the anti-graft court with no bail recommended.
According to the report, Tamayo was taken into custody at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday upon his arrival from the United Arab Emirates. He was identified through his ID.
The joint operation of the CIDG NCR Field Unit and the Aviation Security Group enabled the capture of Tamayo, bringing to nine the number of individuals allegedly linked to the flood control scandal in Oriental Mindoro who have fallen into the hands of the authorities.
After Tamayo faced the Sandiganbayan, he was taken to the Quezon City Jail in Payatas.
8 face raps
Last Monday, eight of the accused of graft and malversation related to the P289 million substandard flood control project appeared before the Sandiganbayan for booking and the issuance of their commitment orders.
They included Dennis Abagon, Gerald Pacanan, Ruben Santos, Dominic Serrano, Juliet Calvo, Felisardo Casino and Lerma Cayco, all DPWH officials.
The male suspects were brought to the Payatas City Jail, while the women were brought to Camp Karingal. One of the individuals, Juliet Calvo, posted bail of P90,000 for her graft charge.
The arraignment and pre-trial of the accused is scheduled for 2 December at 1:30 p.m.
