The Figaro Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring Batangas’ historic coffee industry through its annual Coffee Tree Planting: From Crop to Cup 2025, which marked its second year on Saturday with the planting of 1,000 coffee seedlings in Purok 6, Sitio Bagbag, Barangay San Isidro.
More than 200 volunteers joined the activity, which forms part of the foundation’s continuing mission to revive Batangas’ coffee heritage while uplifting local farmers and communities.
As part of the program, the Figaro Foundation committed to conduct biannual maintenance and cleaning of the planting sites over the next two years to help ensure the survival of the seedlings and support long-term sustainable coffee production.
“This tree planting program is more than just a one-day initiative—it is about cultivating the roots of Batangas’ coffee heritage for generations to come,” Figaro Foundation Administrator Mary Joy Herrera said. “By engaging our volunteers, partners, and communities, we are building towards a future where local coffee farming continues to flourish.”
The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) among Figaro Foundation Administrator Herrera; Figaro Coffee Group Brand Manager John Christopher Laderas; landowner Ric Pesa; and Barangay Captain Hon. Tasiano Mea, formalizing multi-sector support for the coffee replanting effort.
The foundation emphasized that revitalizing Batangas’ signature coffee industry will not only benefit the environment but also strengthen the livelihood of local growers and reinforce the province’s long-standing identity as one of the country’s centers of coffee production.
Through continuing environmental programs and community partnerships, the Figaro Foundation aims to cement Batangas’ place as a cradle of Philippine coffee and help ensure the resilience and competitiveness of local coffee farming in the years ahead.
